Beyond the Chat Window: Zencity’s AI Assistant Changes the Way Government Teams Work

Power Actions didn’t come from a product roadmap exercise. The Zencity product  team and I have spent years working alongside local government professionals, building to close gaps we watch clients struggle with.

AI assistants are everywhere right now. Most work the same way: you type a question, you get an answer, and then you figure out what to do with it. That’s useful. But for local government teams managing communications, budget decisions, council meetings, and community crises, useful isn’t enough.

The Problem with Open-Ended AI

The honest reality is that most AI tools put the burden on the user. You need to know what questions to ask, how to frame them, and how to translate the response into work you can actually use. That requires time, confidence with the tool, and a clear sense of what the AI is capable of, something which most users, reasonably, don’t have.

The result is under-use. Not because the capability isn’t there, but because the path from question to output isn’t clear enough to build into a daily habit.

Power Actions are Zencity’s answer to that.

A Library of Workflows, Built for Your Role

Power Actions introduce a new Actions button within the AI Assistant. When clicked, it opens a library of predefined, AI-powered workflows, each one designed for a specific task that local government teams do regularly.

Each action triggers a dedicated AI agent that engages you step by step: asking the right clarifying questions, structuring the analysis, and guiding you toward a finished output rather than leaving you to assemble it yourself.

The initial library spans six core workflow areas:

  • Budget – understand community priorities and sentiment to support allocation decisions
  • Communications – generate plans and draft content grounded in what residents are actually saying
  • Council meetings – paste your agenda, receive a data-led brief ready to walk in with
  • Crisis response – rapidly assess community sentiment and build coordinated messaging
  • Performance management – surface resident feedback linked to service delivery
  • Strategic initiatives – evaluate community support and identify concerns before they surface publicly

The library is starting with a more narrow focus and will expand. Some actions are product-dependent, they appear when clients have the relevant capabilities. All users have access to the button and the core set from launch.

Built on Zencity Data, Not the Internet

What makes this different from a generic AI workflow tool is what the agents have access to. Every Power Action draws on Zencity’s integrated data sources simultaneously, surveys, social media, 311, news, combining qualitative community voice with quantitative survey results to generate outputs that are grounded in your jurisdiction’s reality, not a general approximation.

The platform is tuned for local government and public safety context. It understands the difference between community sentiment and community safety data. It knows which Zencity products to draw from depending on what you’re asking. And in our early 2026 release, the underlying intelligence layer has been substantially upgraded, faster data processing, more accurate responses, improved answer structure, and new reliability guardrails built to keep outputs consistent and trustworthy.

From Experimentation to Embedded Value

The goal isn’t to create a feature people try once. It’s to build something that earns a place in how teams work- the morning brief check before a council session, the communications draft that starts with data, the crisis read that happens in minutes rather than hours.

Power Actions are the bridge from AI as a curiosity to AI as infrastructure. The habit builds quickly when the path is clear. That clarity comes from a team that genuinely understands local government work. That’s what I and the team at Zencity are building toward. Join us!
